Caring for Your Feline Friend

At the minimum, these are the list of essentials needed to care for your feline companion.

  • Two bowls, one for food and one for water
  • Cat food
  • Litter box with litter and a scoop
  • Breakaway collar with identification
  • Small toy(s)
  • Immunizations

Daily Care

Cats, just like people, need to have fresh water to drink daily. Keep a bowl out at all times. Dry food can also be kept in a bowl during the day since cats do like to nibble. If using canned or moist food, give only what the cat will eat during a meal and discard any uneaten portion.

Keep the litter box clean for both of your sakes! Even people don't like using a bathroom where someone hasn't flushed. Enough said.

Finally, add some play time to your schedule. Make time to handle and play with your pet. Cats love to chase mouse-like objects. Any pet store has items from small balls to catnipped filled toys. Watch kitty go a bit crazy!

Annual Check Ups

In addition, cats do require regular check ups with their veterinarian. Initially, cats should be spayed our neutered to control overpopulation. Immunizations for rabies, feline distemper ( feline feline panleukopenia ) and feline leukemia are available. Some jurisdictions do legally require rabies.
